After waiting for a year, Asus has released the Asus ROG Zephyrus 2022 series. With upgraded hardware and enticing features, the latest 2022 model has been improved significantly over both the original 2020 and last generation 2021 model with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series and NVidia RTX GPU.
Asus ROG Zephyrus is rated as one of the best gaming laptops in the market and Asus has managed to pack such impressive power-hungry hardware into a compact design.
For the GPU, Asus offers two different GPU variants, an AMD Radeon RX 6700S 8GB GDDR6 (100W TGP with SmartShift) or AMD Radeon RX 6800S 8GB GDDR6 (105W TGP with SmartShift).
Asus also offers two RAM variants, 16GB DDR5 4800MHz or 32GB DDR5 4800MHz. For snappy windows performance and a faster file transfer rate, there is a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. There are two color options, Moonlight White and Eclipse Gray. Asus ROG Zephyrus has been an impressive overall package, so let’s see if the Asus rog Zephyrus 2022 model retains the title.
Asus ROG Zephyrus: What’s New?
With the new launch, we expect new features and higher performance. Let’s have a look at the latest upgrades and some comparisons between the 2021 and 2020 generations for a better understanding.
Asus ROG Zephyrus 2022 Special Features
- MUX – MUX allows users to choose to run their laptop display either with a dedicated GPU or GPU.
- ROG Intelligent Cooling – It is a cooling solution to keep the laptop cool and quiet while doing basic tasks. A custom vapor chamber and liquid metal are used to achieve this feature.
- ROG Nebula Display – Approximately 10+% working space thanks to the 16:10 aspect ratio, and Dolby Vision HDR support.
- Fast Charging – 50% charge in 30 minutes thanks to the 100W USB Type-C charger and Wi-Fi 6E support.
- Quad Speakers – Dolby Atmos support allows for a clear and punchy audio experience.
Upgraded Design & Ergonomics
Asus has introduced two color variants for the asus rog zephyrus 2022 model, a darker and a lighter one. The 2021 model came with a silver interior with a silver keyboard and a white lid, whereas in the 2022 model everything is white. This gives the 2022 model a minimalistic and more refined appearance.
Other color variants are more or less the same, with a dark-gray lid and interior, and a black keyboard. People who don’t like fingerprints on their laptops may not like this variant as it attracts a lot of smudges and fingerprints.
The weight is pretty much the same for these laptops over the years and most models weigh under 1.65 KG (3.65 lbs). The asus rog zephyrus 2022 model offers a new format with a little narrower, taller, and thinner dimensions. This new format made it possible for Asus to fit a 16:10 aspect ratio display on the 2022 G14s, a larger armrest, and a spacious trackpad.
Asus has finally implemented a webcam that was missing from the previous models. With IR capabilities and Hello support, unfortunately, the fingerprint sensor has been removed from the power button.
One of the things which haven’t changed is the ErgoLift hinge design. ErgoLift design makes the laptop’s main body lift when you open the lid, making airflow much better and also slightly inclined typing spot. This design also keeps the laptop cooler when playing games for a long time.
Overall the new hardware changes and better ergonomic design make the 2022 Zephyrus a viable option for many computer enthusiasts and gamers. But the 2021 options are still very good choices for many people as the prices have also come down.
Better Performance
According to the specification, the asus rog zephyrus 2022 model is a significant facelift over the previous models. Both the CPU and GPU are running at a higher clock speed and power settings, this does increase the power draw and thermals but to tackle that there are a vapor chamber and higher capacity fans. The 2022 generation performs significantly faster than the 2020 generation but it also is the noisiest.
Built for Gaming
With the upgraded hardware, gaming performance has seen a significant rise over the 2020 and 2021 generations. There is around a 15-25% increase in FPS for the RX6800S model vs the RTX 3060 (2021) model, and a whopping 40% increase compared to the RTX 2060 (2020) G14s.
Also, it is essential to mention that the 2022 generation offers a MUX and a Discrete GPU mode, as the older models only supported a Hybrid mode with no MUX. It does make a significant outcome on the gaming performance, exclusively at lower resolution.
Upgraded Panel
The taller 16:10 aspect ratio display with narrower bezels and a smaller chin is a visually significant improvement over the 16:9 panel from the previous model. This increases the available workspace by 10+%.
There are two display panel options:
- QHD+ 120Hz 3ms response, 500-nits, 100% DCI-P3, Pantone validated;
- FHD+ 144Hz 3ms response, 400-nits, 100% sRGB, Pantone validated.
Both of the panels are faster and brighter than before, and thanks to the 3ms response time you won’t be seeing any ghosting in fast-paced games.
The new generation Zephyrus comes with several new features from the previous generations. Some of the features are:
